**TITLE**
*Chelan-Douglas Counties Extension EducatorHuman Development, Wenatchee*

**APPOINTMENT STATUS**
*Assistant Extension Professor (E-2), Extension Educator, Human Development, twelve-month, tenure track faculty position for Chelan and Douglas Counties.*

**LOCATION**
*This position is located at the WSU Chelan County Extension office, 400 Washington Street, Wenatchee WA. The county has a total area of 2,994 square miles. In 2000 there were an estimated 2.62 persons per household with a median household income of $37,316. Chelan Countys economy is dominated by agriculture, primarily tree fruit production on 37,212 acres. The 2000 U.S. Census identified a population of 66,616. The racial makeup of the county was primarily White, with a growing Hispanic or Latino population. African Americans, Native American, Asians, and Pacific Islanders each made up less than 1% of the total population.*

*Douglas* *County* *is located east of Chelan County. In 2000 there were an estimated 2.76 persons per household in Douglas County with a median household income of $38,464. The primary industry in Douglas County is agriculture including the raising of crops and associated industries including packaging, warehousing, shipping and processing. Apples, wheat and cattle are the primary crops although there are significant other crop varieties in the county. The 2000 U.S. Census identified a population of 32,603. The racial makeup of the county is primarily White, with a growing Hispanic or Latino population. Native Americans made up slightly over 1% of the population. African Americans, Pacific Islanders, Asians, and others made up the rest of the population.*

***QUALIFICATIONS***
*_Required_*
*7 Master's degree with academic training in human development, leadership development, youth development, prevention science, public health, guidance and counseling, education, social sciences or other related field.*

**_Highly Desired_**
*1. Demonstrated experience working with youth and/or families from varying socioeconomic and ethnic groups including Spanish speaking audiences. *
*2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using oral, written, and listening skills in relating to a variety of audiences. *
*3. Two years experience working effectively with both adults and youth in educational settings. *
*4. Spanish language skills. *
*5. Demonstrated experience as a leader or member of grant-writing/fundraising team(s). *
*6. Demonstrated experience in project management and budget development. *
*7. Demonstrated experience recruiting and supervising volunteers and/or employees. *
*8. Demonstrated experience working independently. *
*9. Demonstrated experience working as a team leader or team member of integrated projects. *

*10. Documented conflict resolution skills and experience. *
*11. Demonstrated competency in the use of personal computers and software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and email). *

**LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY**
*This WSU faculty member is responsible to the WSU Chelan County Extension Director, and works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of Extension faculty members in other Extension Offices as well as Extension Specialists and Researchers. *

**RELATIONSHIPS**
*7 Participate as a member of the WSU Extension team in Chelan and Douglas Counties, including defining appropriate roles for faculty in 4-H/youth and public service activities.*
*7 Work with the Douglas County FCS Educator and other Extension faculty and staff statewide, including the Extension Strengthening Families Team, on multi-disciplinary programs.*
*7 Partner and collaborate with local stakeholders for program development, implementation, and evaluation.*
*7 Maintain relationships with the courts in Chelan and Douglas Counties for the implementation of the Coping With Divorce program, and with school districts and Chelan/Douglas Together! For Drug Free Youth for the Strengthening Families Program.*

**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
*Provide vision, leadership, and direction for a human development program in Chelan and Douglas Counties. This includes planning, conducting, and evaluating research-based educational activities consistent with clientele needs and WSU Extension policy. *

*Address a broad spectrum of human development issues across the lifespan with educational programs for children, youth, adults, and families. *

*_Program Development and Implementation_*
*7 Gain an understanding of community needs and issues affecting the children, youth and families of Chelan-Douglas Counties.*
*7 Ensure that programs and activities reach diverse and under-served families, especially Spanish speaking populations.*
*7 Develop a written plan of work, prepare reports, and implement program evaluation using the logic model.*
*7 Develop, implement, and document outcomes of programs, including the Strengthening Families and Coping with Divorce programs, that bring WSU expertise and experience to address the educational needs of local families and partnering organizations that serve families. *
*7 Develop partnerships that will add program resources and expand access to targeted audiences.*
*7 Procure and manage grants, contracts and other extramural funds that will support strategic program priorities.*
*7 Apply best practice models for delivering children, youth, and family education programs.*

*_Community and Outreach_*
*7 Develop innovative educational materials and design effective methods of delivery that reach the diverse audiences of Chelan and Douglas Counties. (Dimensions of diversity include family structures, gender, culture, age, sexual orientation, education, and income.)*
*7 Develop linkages, collaborations, and partnerships to build capacity for holistic and integrated educational outreach for children, youth, adults, and families. __*
